Plot 92: Joseph F. Peters

Joseph F. Peters was born in 1871 to Joseph and Mary Peters in the Azores, Portugal. He was the eldest of three children, three years older than his brother, Manuel, and eight years older than his brother, William. Mr. Peters arrived in the United States in 1888 at 17 and began working as a longshoreman in East Boston. In 1896, he married Mary Rosa Silva at 25. She was 19. The couple had two children: Mary, born in April 1896, and Joseph, born in 1897.

Two years after the birth of his son, on August 28, 1899, Mr. Peters ruptured his liver and took his own life at 28, while incarcerated in the Massachusetts State Prison.
