Lyman White was born on January 1, 1820, to Eli and Olive White in Greenwich, Massachusetts.
Mr. White worked as a farmer until October 19, 1861, when he was drafted into the Civil War at 43 years old. He served as a Private in the 26th Massachusetts Regiment, fighting for the Union, and was quickly promoted to Corporal. However, on October 10, 1862, Mr. White was discharged due to a disability just a year into his service.
After his discharge in New Orleans, Louisiana, Mr. White returned to Wendell, Massachusetts, likely reuniting with his wife, Hannah Jane Davis. They had married on November 19, 1861, while he was actively serving in the Union Army. By 1872, Mr. White was incarcerated in Massachusetts State Prison. He died there seven years and seven months later on August 2, 1879, at 59 years old, succumbing to heart disease.
