Walter Burt was born in 1856 in New Brunswick, Canada. After moving to the United States, he worked as a farmer until his incarceration in the Massachusetts State Prison in 1884.
He remained in the prison for four years and 11 months before dying of pulmonary phthisis on May 29, 1889, at 33.
