Eugene Samuel Taylor was born on October 19, 1847 in Windham, Vermont to Calvin Taylor and Orrila Choate. He was the youngest of his six other siblings — four brothers and two sisters. Mr. Taylor married Susan Jane McDowell on September 7, 1882, in Mooers, New York, when he was 34 and she was 26. They moved to Deerfield, Massachusetts shortly after, where he worked as a farm laborer. Their first son, George Eugene Taylor, was born on October 28, 1883.
On October 26, 1886, at 39, Mr. Taylor was incarcerated in Massachusetts State Prison. He petitioned for a pardon in June 1904, but officials turned down the pardon. He contracted tuberculosis in prison around 1905 and died from the disease at 1:00 P.M. on November 21, 1907, at 60.
