William Eugene Rue was a Black man born on April 15, 1883 in Springfield, Massachusetts to William Henry Rue and Priscilla K. Bailey. He had one sister, Eva Ann Rue. In 1899, Priscilla Bailey remarried and moved to Gardner, Massachusetts. By 1910, she was widowed and Mr. Rue lived with her in Gardner, where he worked as a leather molder and cutter at a chair shop.
Mr. Rue was incarcerated in the Massachusetts State Prison on October 27, 1913. He died of Basedow's Disease (now known as Graves' Disease) at 7:15 P.M. on October 31, 1919, at 36.
