Plot 60: John G. Rais

John G. Rais was born in 1866 to Gaspardas and Floria das Neves in St. Antone, Cabo Verde. He later moved to Massachusetts, where he worked as a mariner. On May 31, 1894, 28-year-old Mr. Rais married 19-year-old  Maria Isabel, who was also born in Cabo Verde, in New Bedford. Mr. Rais then began working as a steward.

He was incarcerated in the Massachusetts State Prison in 1896. Seven months later, on January 19, 1897, at 11:15 P.M., he died of pulmonary tuberculosis at 31.
