Lawrence Murphy was born on December 21, 1870 in New Brunswick, Canada. He lived in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada with his parents, Peter Murphy and Elizabeth Butler. He immigrated to the United States, settled in New Bedford, Massachusetts, and worked as a wire worker.
Mr. Murphy allegedly contracted tuberculosis in Canada before immigrating to the U.S. He had tuberculosis for three years before his admission to the Rutland Prison Camp and Hospital in February 1911. He was incarcerated at the Rutland Prison Camp and Hospital until he died from tuberculosis on June 2, 1911, at 40.
