Eugene Powers was born on July 12, 1859, to David and Mary Powers in Malden, Massachusetts. By age 6, he, his parents, and his older brother James were living in Charlestown, where his father was serving in the United States Army. He had brown hair, blue eyes, and was 5’8”. Mr. Powers was a Catholic.
He later moved back to Malden and worked as a teamster until his incarceration in the Massachusetts Reformatory on April 3, 1889. He died there from methyl alcohol poisoning on February 6, 1891, at 31.
