Charles C. Cowlishaw was born on March 18, 1831, to Richard and Jane Cowlishaw in Congleton, Cheshire, England. At 26, he married 25 year old Elizabeth Heath on October 1, 1857, in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, England. The pair had three daughters, Frances, Leonora, and Constance, and a son, Cyril, but only Leonora survived past childhood. Mr. Cowlishaw eventually moved to the United States and settled in Boston, Massachusetts, where he married Elizabeth Davis on November 3, 1877.
Mr. Cowlishaw was incarcerated in the Massachusetts State Prison in 1890 for about six years. He died on October 1, 1896, of chronic bronchitis at 65.
