Mark Boothby was born on January 15, 1836, in Palmyra, Maine to Alexander and Johanna Boothby. By 1856, he lived in Medford, Massachusetts, working as a carpenter. On October 25 of that year, 20 year old Mr. Boothby married 19 year old Ms. Ana Fleming.
On May 18, 1861, the navy enlisted Mr. Boothby in New Bedford to fight for the Union in the Civil War. At this time, he stood about 5'6½", with a light complexion, brown hair, and blue eyes. He served on the USS Ohio for about two months until he deserted in Fort Pickens, Florida.
Mr. Boothby remarried Ms. Sarah Walsh Wilkinson upon his return to Massachusetts on December 4, 1872. He entered the Massachusetts State Prison in 1897 and died on May 10, 1898, of cerebral congestion at 62.
