Delancey Steeves was born in December 1878 in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada, to Thomas Ansley Steeves and Bertha Jane Gibson. He lived with his parents and 11 other siblings – five sisters and six brothers. Delancey moved to the United States in 1893 at 15. Records show his usual residence was in Prescott, MA.
By 21, Mr. Steeves was a prisoner at the Worcester County House of Corrections. He also spent time at the Pittsfield Jail before authorities moved him to Massachusetts State Prison. He was incarcerated in Massachusetts State Prison when he died of syringomyelia on April 17, at age 32.
