Eugene Samuel Taylor was born to Calvin Taylor and Orrila Choate on October 19, 1847. He was the youngest child with 6 siblings (4 brothers and 2 sisters). The family was raised in Windham County, Vermont. Eugene married Susan Jane McDowell on September 7, 1882, in Mooers, New York, when he was 34 and she was 26. They moved to Deerfield, Massachusetts, shortly after. Their first son - George Eugene Taylor - was born on October 28, 1883. At age 39, he was sentenced to life at Massachusetts State Prison. He petitioned for a pardon in June 1904, but the pardon was turned down. Eugene contracted tuberculosis at the prison around 1905 and died at age 60 on November 21, 1907.
