1775 color engraving of Concord by Amos Doolittle featuring the building that would become the Middlesex Hotel.
Image description: A color engraving of the Town of Concord as it looked in 1775. The cemetery (Old Hill Burying Ground) is in the foreground with two British soldiers standing among the gravestones. Behind the stone wall is what would eventually become Monument Square with regiments of British troops marching through. Roads, buildings, and the old Mill Pond are visible in the background beneath a blue sky. Above the top edge of the image, the following text is written in black ink: "Plate II. A View of the Town of Concord." Throughout the image, various locations and scenes ar labeled with numbers. Below the image, a guide to the numbers is written in black ink:
1. Companies of the Regulars marching into Concord
2. Companies of regulars drawn up in order.
3. A Detaichment [sic] destroying the Provincial Stores.
4 & 5. Colonel Smith & Major Pitcairn viewing the Provincials who were mustering on an East Hill in Concord.
6. The Townhouse
7. The Meetinghouse
